When Arthur Wunderlich first opened the Village Wine & Spirit Shop in the mid 1970s, New York wine enthusiasts were mainly interest in imported, particularly French, wines. Excited about the developing wine industry in California, Arthur felt it was just a matter of time before California and eventually other American wines became as popular in New York as Bordeaux or Burgundy were.

He set about assembling the finest California wine portfolio in the East, introducing such fine labels as Quail Ridge, Robert Pecota, Field Stone and Duckhorn to New Yorkers. His was also one of the first New York shops to introduce Chateau Montelena, Chateau St. Jean, Diamond Creek, Raymond, Matnazas Creek, Schramsberg Sparkling wines, among others to New York. Later, before they became household names, La Jota, Livingston, Peter Michael, Etude, and Turley, along with exciting new wines from Oregon, Washington State and New York were first featured at the shop.

Named “One of Westchester’s Great Wine Shops” by Westchester Magazine, Bedford Wine Merchants is at the epicenter, with one of the largest selections of the most sought-after American Wines. Of course, our offerings don't stop there. We also stock the best of Europe, from Champagne, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone Valley; the great wines of Italy, Spain, and Portugal and the exciting wines coming from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and South America.
