Wine Spectator 91 points - The 2009 Placet Valtomelloso is sourced from 23-year-old, organically cultivated, Viura vines in the La Montesa vineyard near the village of Alfaro. It is light and fresh on the grassy, citrus-tinged nose with hints of jasmine and nettle. The palate is fresh and crisp on the entry with subtle dried honey and caramel notes, although it just tapers away towards the finish. Still, this remains a pleasant, pure Viura. Drink now.
DOMAINE PALACIOS 2009 PALACIOS REMONDO RIOJA PLACET
"Almond, wax and melon flavors mingle in this smooth, rich white. Full-bodied, with firm acidity and light tannins, finishing with smoky and herbal flavors. Not showy, but harmonious. Drink now through 2016." Tom Mathews Wine Spectator 91 points
|Wine maker notes
|The only white wine made by famed Spanish winemaker Alvaro Palacios at his family’s Rioja property, Placet Valtomellosois an estate-grown wine made in very limited quantities from the indigenous Spanish grape variety, Viura. Placet, meaning “pleasing,” is bright gold in color with enticing aromas of white flowers, lime, fennel root and fresh peaches. On the palate the wine is nimble and vibrant with crisp acidity and a long finish that has notes of fresh pear, white peach and magnolia flowers.
