Wine Enthusiast 90 points - The 2011 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is surprisingly boisterous, with less of the energy that is typical of the Hyde de Villaine Chardonnays and slightly burly contours. Lemon oil, truffle, almond and floral notes open up in a powerful, intense Chardonnay that is certainly not lacking in personality. `
HDV WINERY 2011 HDV CHARDONNAY HYDE VINEYARD
"The mighty partnership between the Hyde and de Villaine families shows maturity in this vineyard-designated wine, from the Hyde’s well-respected site. Ripe golden pear delivers a richness to the palate that is offset by floral minerality and a pleasant texture of citrus and spice." Wine Enthusiast 90 points Drink 2015-21
|HdV Hyde de Villaine is a family venture between Hyde Vineyards of Napa Valley and Aubert and Pamela de Villaine of Burgundy, France. HdV is bottled under the coat of arms of the historic de la Guerra family from which Pamela de Villaine and the Hydes descend. Aubert, given his many years of invaluable experience at Domaine A. & P. de Villaine and as co-director of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, brings to the partnership the foundation upon which the venture bases its theories and practices. Larry Hyde, born into one of Californias oldest farming families, purchased what is now known as the Hyde Vineyard in 1977 and has gained national recognition for his viticultural talents, growing grapes for some of the best single vineyard wines in the country. Winemaker Stephane Vivier was born and raised in France. His skills were cultivated in the vineyards and cellars of Pommard, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet and then expanded through his work in New Zealand and the Sonoma Coast Appellation. The sustainably farmed vineyards are composed of shallow loamy soils and ancient streambeds that work in conjunction with the cool Carneros climate to maintain optimal stress levels for the vines.
