Wine Advocate 95 points - The 2004 Barolo Cannubi possesses superb depth, clarity and inner perfume, with layers of fruit, sweet spices and menthol that develop in the glass as this magical wine gradually reveals its sublime personality and remarkable texture. Well-integrated oak, ripe, silky tannins and a finish that lasts forever round out this beautiful wine, which was simply stunning on both occasions I tasted it. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2022.

Wine Spectator 91 points - Beguiling, concentrated and suave, this classically styled Barolo opens with lavender, cherry, almond and anise, which slide in to blackberry brandy flavors on the palate. Long finish. Intense and delicious from start to finish; a real stunner. Drink now or cellar 5–7 years. W.E.
Rose petal and plum aromas, with hints of vanilla, follow through to a full body, with excellent, subtle fruit, chewy tannins and a fresh finish. Subtle yet structured. Best after 2011. 800 cases made. –JS

Producer
E. Pira & Figli is a very important name in the history of Barolo. The Pira family, whose members have been vignerons for generations, started producing and bottling wine at the end of the 19th century. When the Pira lineage ended tragically with the death of Luigi Pira, the estate was sold to the Boschis family of Giacomo Borgogno & Figli. Chiara Boschis took over the reins in 1990 with a clear vision of what she wanted to accomplish - to marry the extraordinary power of Barolo with approachability, enticing elegance, and lush, intense aromas. She vinifies exclusively from proprietary vineyards, located in the very best crus of Barolo: Cannubi, San Lorenzo and Via Nuova, comprising a total of 6 acres. Annual production is a miniscule 2,000 cases. This is truly a rare gem of an estate.
