2008 GILBERT PHILIPPE MENETOU SALON ROUGE
"Light gold. Ripe, musky aromas of orchard fruits, mango, herbs and lemon rind. Then silky, rich and palate-coating, in a distinctly lower-acid style, with gently sweet tangerine and mango flavors. Smooth and harmonious wine with gentle finishing lift and good persistence." Steve Tanzer 88 points
A descendant of a winemaker lineage since 1768, Philippe Gilbert took over the management of the Domaine in 1998. With Pinot Noir's increasing popularity here is a superb Pinot Noir from a small organic producer from the Menetou-Salon region of the Loire Valley. The bouquet is dominated by roasted and spicy overtones, with berryfruit scents (blackcurrant) perfectly melting with the woodiness.
