Steve Tanzer 92 points - The NV Brut Reserve is an attractive, easygoing wine with good up-front fruit and an accessible personality. Flowers, dried pears and spices are some of notes that linger on the finish. This is Lot 23813206659A. Disgorged February 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014.
More bass than treble. Full-bodied and voluminous, this delivers subtle, complex shadings of whole-grain bread, coconut and candied fruit, finishing with a distinctive rhubarb preserve aftertaste. It’s rich and balanced on the soft side.
The tiny mousse tells a lot about the quality of this impressive Champagne. It is quite full in style, with flavors of white currants and a rich, but still bone-dry aftertaste. It is a perfect food Champagne, with structure and a good tension between richness and elegance.
2004 BILLECART-SALMON BRUT
" Light, bright gold. Mineral-accented aromas of orange, white flowers, ginger and white pepper, with a leesy overtone. Juicy, penetrating orchard fruit and orange zest flavors gain flesh and and spiciness with air. Packs a solid punch but carries no excess weight and finishes with impressive clarity and chalky, mineral-driven persistence. I'd give this youthful Champagne a few years to unwind."
