Aromas of fresh fig, stone fruit, and smoky minerality precedes a filigree patchwork of spice, apricot and pear flavors. A rich and complex wine of finesse and elegance.
Wine Advocate 94 points - Sleek and focused on a trim mix of nectarine, tangerine and white peach. Pure, elegant and vibrant, ending with a burst of citrus. Drink now through 2019. 1,916 cases made. JL

Steve Tanzer 92 points - All the best elements of the vintage and house style come together in HdVs 2009 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard. The fruit is a bit richer, riper and more voluptuous than in most HdV wines, which serves to balance the cool, vibrant style the estate favors. The 2009 impresses for its length, persistence and spherical finish. This is a great showing from HdV. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024.

Technical notes
The fruit was sourced from 20-30 year old south/southeast facing vines planted in the Hyde Vineyard to shallow loam over clay hardpan. Aged for 12 months in French oak (20-25% new) followed by three months in stainless steel, the wine was bottled without fining or filtration.

Producer
HdV ? Hyde de Villaine ? is a family venture between Hyde Vineyards of Napa Valley and Aubert and Pamela de Villaine of Burgundy, France. HdV is bottled under the coat of arms of the historic de la Guerra family from which Pamela de Villaine and the Hydes descend. Aubert, given his many years of invaluable experience at Domaine A. & P. de Villaine and as co-director of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, brings to the partnership the foundation upon which the venture bases its theories and practices. Larry Hyde, born into one of California's oldest farming families, purchased what is now known as the Hyde Vineyard in 1977 and has gained national recognition for his viticultural talents, growing grapes for some of the best single vineyard wines in the country. Winemaker Stephane Vivier was born and raised in France. His skills were cultivated in the vineyards and cellars of Pommard, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet and then expanded through his work in New Zealand and the Sonoma Coast Appellation. The sustainably farmed vineyards are composed of shallow loamy soils and ancient streambeds that work in conjunction with the cool Carneros climate to maintain optimal stress levels for the vines.
