Rich, spicy and meaty aromas with a touch of garrigue precede a lush and bold palate that features notes of blackberry, Morello cherry, and baking spices. Nicely dense with warm, sweet and spicy fruit that is backed by grippy tannins.

Loaded with deep blackberry and black cherry fruit, licorice, crushed stone and hints of roasted herbs, it is full-bodied, rich and concentrated, with knockout precision and focus. It is serious stuff and still a baby. Drink it over the coming decade.

Wine Spectator 92 points - This has dark, brooding aromas of crushed plum and black tea, followed by rich yet racy graphite, espresso, singed iron and mulled blackberry fruit. The long, sleek finish lets the iron note hang on. Dense, but pure at the core, with solid grip. Should stretch out a bit more. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2014. 1,439 cases made. –JM

Technical notes
(90% Grenache/10% Syrah). The storied romance of Heloise and Abelard is the inspiration for this wine. The grapes were harvested from 45+ year old vines, cold macerated for three days in wood tanks, fermented for 10 days with punch downs, pumps overs and delestage twice a day, then macerated on their skins for four weeks. Aged for 11 months in new and neutral oak, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered and aged for an additional 3-4 years.
