MERRY EDWARDS WINERY
One of California's first woman winemakers, Merry Edwards began her career at Mount Eden Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1974. She went on to become the founding winemaker at Matanzas Creek in 1977 and remained there until 1984. In 1997, family and friends joined Merry to found Merry Edwards Winery, with a focus on producing Pinot Noirs with a sense of place from Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. She produced her first Pinot Noir in 1997 from her 24 acre Meredith Estate. And in 2001 her first Sauvignon Blanc from the Coppersmith estate, which was named for her, husband Ken. Today, she and her husband Ken manage five estate vineyards and maintain collaborative relationship with several other dedicated grower to supplement their estate production Two regional blends and six vineyard designates wines are produced.
She has been named a finalist in the James Beard Foundation's annual awards for Outstanding Wine and Spirits Professional, for five consecutive years and her Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are consistently among the highest rated wines. Was named the number one Sauvignon Blanc by the Wine Spectator for six consecutive years with scores of 90 or above.
