Vinous 88 points - Dark red. Plum, dark cherry, licorice and menthol on the rather generic nose; I don’t think I would pick this blind as sangiovese. The dark fruit, licorice and herbal flavors offer decent intensity, but some intrusive acidity and drying tannins give the finish an edgy quality. I wanted more perfume and lift.
Wine Spectator 88 points - The sweet, ripe cherry and berry flavors get a lift from the bright structure. Balanced on the tannic side, with an astringent finish. Drink now through 2024. 175 cases imported.-BS

Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Castelgiocondo emerges from the glass with super-ripe red cherries, plums, French oak, spices and licorice. The plush, intense style may please some readers, but I find very little Sangiovese typicity here. Powerful, rough tannins will only become more prominent as the wine ages and the fruit melts away. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. (Apr 2012)
Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is the result of a painstaking selection process that begins in the vineyard and continues through winemaking, giving birth to a wine with a forceful character.
