Steve Tanzer 91 points - Deep ruby. Pungent, spice-accented aromas of red and dark berries, with subtle floral and mineral nuances adding complexity. Sappy, incisive raspberry and cassis flavors show decent concentration and gain smokiness and floral character with air. An elegant, restrained, mineral-driven wine that finishes brisk and with very good, spicy length. This wine has filled in since last year but is still a relatively lithe take on Hermitage that will strike those who prize power as light; I really like its balance and precision. (Mar 2011)
Wine Spectator 90 points - Taut, but pure and fresh, with sanguine, cherry pit and iron notes leading the way, followed by damson plum and red currant flavors that linger on the finish. Not broad, but balanced. Drink now through 2014. 212 cases made. –JM (Mar 31 2011)
Tardieu-Laurent is one of the most highly acclaimed negociants in the Rhone. Its success began with a serendipitous meeting between Michel Tardieu and Dominique Laurent. The two formed a friendship in the early 1990s, which led to the formation of Tardieu-Laurent Vallee du Rhone Maison de Negoce. Beginning with the first vintage in 1994, the wines of Tardieu-Laurent have won the praise of collectors and critics alike. Today, while the two men continue to share an extraordinary friendship, Tardieu-Laurent is solely under Michel’s guidance and care. Located in Lourmarin, in the heart of the Luberon, Tardieu-Laurent crafts approximately 17 wines each year, two-thirds of which are produced in southern Rhone. The remaining wines are produced in northern Rhone.
