A selection of the estate's best Chardonnay was barrel fermented and aged on the lees for 18-20 months in French oak puncheons and shows luscious fruit elements that are nicely integrated with rich cream and hints of oak.
Wine Advocate 88 points - The Pellegrini 2007 Chardonnay Vintner?s Pride ? which lacks the 20% component of tank-fermented juice that was employed in their regular bottling ? is scented with nutmeg, toast, caramel, and sweet corn; offers a rather obviously oak-inflected but persistently juicy palate impression incorporating pineapple and papaya; and finishes with invigorating added suggestions of pungent herbs and citrus zest. With the fair prices Pellegrini asks for their Chardonnays, I would not be surprised if they find a ready market. That said, I can?t discern anything intriguing or distinctive of Long Island about them. (Apr 2010)

Bob and Joyce Pellegrini founded Pellegrini Vineyards in 1982. Located in Cutchogue, Long Island, New York, the Pellegrinis began with just 30 acres, which now houses the oldest vines in the appellation. In 1988, they acquired two additional parcels just down the road - a 14-acre vineyard called South Harbor and the 28-acre Richmond Creek vineyard both of which face south and are planted to well draining, loamy soils. The Pellegrinis are dedicated farmers and viticulturists, their careful clonal and rootstock selection and progressive growing methods are constantly tweakedso that they may create wines that honestly express Long Island terroir. Winemaker Tom Drozd uses young vines and some purchased fruit to produce their East End Select line of wines.
