Cherry and fresh berries are integrated with elegant and balanced tannins. Good acidity and mineral expression on the long, persistent finish.
Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2009 Chianti Classico is quite beautiful. Layers of sweet red berries, flowers, mint, licorice and spices wrap around the palate in this silky, refined Chianti Classico. A hint of dried flowers and tobacco run through the perfumed, expressive finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. ” (Jun 2012)

Located in the Gaiole district of Chianti, Badia a Coltibuono, which translates to “Abbey of the Good Harvest”, was founded in the 11th century by Vallombrosan monks. The Stucchi Prinetti family purchased the 173 acre property from the church in 1846. Over the years, the family has strategically built a significant stock of ancient Sangiovese clones – this assures a continuous supply of quality grapes as well as clonal diversity. Wines for the Badia a Coltibuono line are made from estate fruit planted on clay and limestone rock soils in Monti in Chianti while grapes for Coltibuono selections are purchased from highly respected, local growers. The family remains dedicated to producing authentic expressions of Chianti – minimal use of oak, careful replanting of high-density vineyards, investment in a new state of the art winery and ICEA organic certification are testaments to their unwavering dedication to preserving the legacy of this historic property.
Technical notes
Estate grown Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Viliegiolo and Colorino from 10-35 years old vines planted in the Poggino, Vignone, Montebello and Argenina parcels on clay and limestone rock were hand-picked and hand-sorted at the winery. Fermented in stainless steel and macerated on its skins for three weeks, the wine aged for 12 months in French and Austrian oak.

Producer
For almost 1000 years Badia a Coltibuono, literally meaning "abbey of good culture”, has been producing high quality wines in the district of Gaiole in Chianti. After WWII Piero Stucchi Prinetti transformed Badia a Coltibuono into a modern wine estate. They are dedicated to Sangiovese and Chianti Classico’s unique terroir through organic farming practices, clonal diversity and the restrained use of new oak. There are two separate wine companies - Badia a Coltibuono for wines made from its estate grown grapes and Coltibuono for its Stucchi Selections, made from grapes purchased through long-term relationships with respected growers in Tuscany. In 2000 Badia a Coltibuono converted its estate vineyards to organic farming practices. All of its grapes are hand-picked.
