A deep, dark red, with aromas of balsamic, oak, fig, black plum and hints of tobacco. Well balanced with firm but round tannins.
Wine Advocate 92 points - The 2009 Reserva is an old vines field blend (with 69% of the grapes sourced from vines 80+ years old, and 31% Touriga Nacional from 10-15 year old vines). Seeming full in the mouth, with a velvety texture, this is sexier and richer than the regular Tinto, but its balance is nice and its structure beautiful. Tannins do emerge with air, as this wine fleshes out and wakes up. It evolves rather dramatically from the early impressions. It should be approachable early, but you would be well served waiting at least a year -- or three. There were 5,083 six-bottle cases produced. Drink now-2023. (Dec 2011)

This historic estate dates back to 1716 and was bought in 1818 by Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira. The current owners, Joao Ferreria Alvares Ribeiro, Francisco Ferreira and Francisco Olazabal are the sixth generation to continue their family’s rich winemaking traditions.
Of the 64 acres planted to vine, 40% are at least 80 years old and all wines in the Quinta do Vallado’s portfolio are made using estate fruit.
|A field blend of more than than 20 grape varieties including Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and Touriga Franca. 69% of the fruit came from vines older than 80 years, and 31% was sourced from 10-15 year old Touriga Nacional vines. The field blend and the Touriga Nacional grapes were vinified separately in stainless steel tanks, with daily pumpovers and fermented for 8-20 days. The wines aged for 17 months in French oak barriques, of which 73% was new.
