Wine Advocate 89 points - The 2007 Marche Rosso Pelago is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Montepulciano and 10% Merlot, a blend created by Giacomo Tachis. Here, too, the wine impresses for its power and richness. There is no shortage of super-ripe jammy fruit and French oak. Finesse and elegance, on the other hand, prove much more elusive. I am not sure the new oak tannins will ever fully integrate. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.”,,, (Jun 2011)
"Pelago" is from the ancient Italian word meaning "deep blue sea" since the vineyards are located near the coast.
The world’s best red wine (International Wine Challenge - London 1997), chosen ahead of 6,750 wines from around the world, including Chateau Latour and Opus One and the best from Italy.
Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 50%, Montepulciano 40%, Merlot 10%.
|Wine maker notes
|Hand selection of grapes from a small vineyard. After 15 days of fermentation, aging in new barriques for 14 months and then finished in the bottle for an additional 12 months.
|After the great results obtained with the native Montepulciano, Umani Ronchi has widened its experience with this new wine, where the herbaceous flavours of Cabernet Sauvignon and the fruity character of Montepulciano merge into the sweet and spicey notes of the wood.
|Served only with hearty meat dishes and heavy sauces and cheeses. A typical dish from Le Marche that would be perfect with this superior wine would be "Piccioni Ripieni", which is stuffed squab.
