Wine Spectator 94 points - Toasty, smoky notes frame a fresh core of black cherry and plum in this firm, vibrant red. Lively acidity keeps this juicy and refreshing, yet plenty of concentration provides depth. Harmonious and long. Drink now through 2016. 1,600 cases made.-TM

Vinous 90 points - Deep ruby. Fragrant dark berries and oak spices on the nose, with hints of woodsmoke and licorice adding complexity. Shows good depth and a velvety texture to its blackberry and cherry flavors, with a floral element emerging with air. Finishes on a sweet vanilla note, with smooth tannins and lingering smokiness.
Wine Advocate 92 points - The 2004 Resalte Reserva spent 18 months in predominantly (90%) French oak. It delivers a bit more complexity in its perfume of earthy minerality, Asian spices, leather, violets, and black fruits. Youthful but slightly austere on the palate, unlike the Pena Roble cuvee, it demands the additional cellaring in order to fill out its structured frame. It offers a drinking window extending from 2014 to 2024. (Jun 2011)
