Amalia has a dark, almost black, very deep color. Its a robust, fleshy wine that highlights liquorice, cloves, black pepper, as well as black fruit such as ripe berries and floral notes of violets and lavender. All of this with a pilsating acidity, nice and fresh with voluminous and elegant tannins. Wine full of complexity and elegance.
Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2009 Amalia is a blend of 60% Syrah, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Carmenere, cropped at 35hl/ha and raised in French oak for 12 months. It has a rich, ostentatious bouquet with dark cherry, kirsch and creme de cassis that shows a modicum of restraint. The palate is smooth and rounded on the dark chocolate covered entry. It glides across the palate with seductive, silky smooth tannins and a lush, mocha-coated finish. It is not a complex wine, but is packed full of flavor. Drink now-2017. (Dec 2012)
