A firm and focused red that offers aromas of toasted spice, plums and red berry fruit, underpinned by hints of fresh floral and spearmint. The juicy core of berry and plum fruit blends with hints of leather, toasted spices and lavender on the soft and balanced finish.
Wine Spectator 90 points - Rich, ripe, aromatically expressive and dark, this turns refreshingly pure and vibrant on the palate, with pretty plum, currant and floral flavors, lingering easily. Shows a hint of licorice on the polished finish. Drink now through 2019.—H.S. (Nov 6 2013)
Henry’s Drive Vignerons was founded by Kim Longbottom and her late husband Mark in Padthaway, South Australia in 1992. With almost 500 acres under vine, the family has Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdelho. The Henry’s Drive winemaking team is led by Renae Hirsch and Kim Jackson, consulting winemaker. Renae brings over a decade of experience, having held winemaking positions in France, Germany, the United States and Australia. The first vintage of Henry’s Drive was released in 1996.
|Shiraz was sourced from Longbottom Vineyards in Padthaway (62%), planted on red loamy soil over limestone and Henry’s Drive’s estate vineyard in McLaren Vale (38%), planted on yellow and red clay loam, and black clay over lime. Fermented on its skins for 5-7 days with pumping over four times a day, the wine was pressed and then aged for 13-16 months in neutral and new oak hogsheads and barriques – American (80%), French (15%) and Eastern European (5%). The wines were vinified separately and blended just before bottling.
