Color - Medium garnet Bouquet - Blackcurrant andblackberry aromas accented by notes of vanilla and toasted oak Taste - A structured, well-balanced wine with flavors of blackberry, toast, and dark fruit with a long finish of vanilla.
Wine Enthusiast 87 points - Chunky, ripe black-fruit aromas come with violet accents. The mouthfeel is good but gritty, with hard tannins and a lot of oak that creates a buttery topping to plum, cassis and molasses flavors. This ripe wine finishes stable but quick, with some chocolate flavor but not much else.  (Jul 2013)

Portia is the signature release from the Portia winemaking estate in Spain’s exciting Ribera del Duero region. It is the outcome of a venture that began in the 1990s, when the Martinez family (owners of Bodegas Faustino, a leading producer of wines from the Rioja), purchased nearly 400 acres of terrain enjoying an eastern and southern orientation in Ribero del Duero. Vineyards were planted chiefly with Tempranillo (known locally as Tinta Fina del Pais) at an average density of 1,200 vines per acre.
Wine maker notes
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 79F. Malolactic fermentation is followed by maturation in new French and American oak barrels for a period of 12 months. The wine spends an additional 6 months in bottle before being released.

100% Tinta Fina del Pais (Tempranillo)

Food pairing
An ideal match for chorizo, egg based dishes, grilled mushrooms, creamy risottos, grilled tuna, steak, lamb chops, and semi-hard cheeses, such as manchego or gruyere.
