Aromas of blueberry, stone fruits and black licorice with flavors of pepper, black currant and cinnamon. A full-bodied wine with velvety tannins and toasty oak notes on the finish.
Wine Advocate 92 points - The peppery, meaty, superb 2010 Angeli Cuvee is primarily a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignan and cool climate Syrah. Production of this big red (15.4% natural alcohol) was 3,300 cases. Its dense ruby/purple hue is followed by aromas of licorice, black currants and cherries intermixed with hints of camphor and spice. This is a full-bodied, opulent, mouth-filling, savory wine with not a hard edge to be found. It should drink well for 5-7 years. (Dec 2013)
Marietta Cellars, located just outside of Geyserville in Sonoma County, was founded by owner and winemaker Chris Bilbro in 1978. He named the winery after his great aunt Marietta, an Italian immigrant who took Chris under her wing and taught him how to cook and taste. Her influence on him is reflected in his lifestyle and his wines. To this day, no wine gets bottled without his approval and no vineyard row goes more than a week without Chris riding his ATV through it. He produces wines of incredible consistency, both in quality and price, in relative anonymity. The Bilbro family winemaking tradition is now in its second generation. The majority of day to day operations are handled by Chris’s three eldest sons, Jake, Scot, and Sam, who are all dedicated to the dream that Chris started in 1978. “For over three decades one of the greatest values in dry California red wine has been the nonvintage kitchen sink blend from the Bilbro’s family-owned Marietta Cellars…This wine flies off retailers shelves, so smart consumers take note.”
