Intense aroma showing all the classic characteristics of the native land of Mas La Plana, together with notes of truffle, toast and wild red berry conserve. Great body and breadth on the palate, with juicy tannins that become balanced and elegant.
Wine Advocate 92 points - The 2009 Mas La Plana is one of the most (if not the most) famous Cabernet Sauvignons from Spain. From a vineyard planted between 1964 and 1969, it was aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels. It has a classy and typical nose of cedar wood, tobacco, leather, vanilla, blackberries and plums - exactly what people expect and want to find in it. The palate has some coarse tannins, which call for some more time in bottle before pulling the cork. This wine should age magnificently and for a long time. Drink 2015-2021. (Feb 2014)
It is more than three decades since this mysterious Spanish wine was born. The label: Black. The bottle: Burgundy style. The variety: Cabernet Sauvignon. Few had much faith in this project. Certainly, nobody back in 1979, could have dreamed that it would triumph in a Parisian blind tasting against some of the world’s most famous wines. Yet it marked the start of a new era in wine making: a time in which to stop dreaming and embark on a new journey, year after year, harvest after harvest.
