Color: Intense ruby red Aroma: Elegant and fruity with intense spice Palate: Firm, full-bodied with dense tannins and well-balanced acidity. Long finish with persistent fruit notes of small wild berries, intense and complex spice.
James Suckling 93 points - Very attractive red with blueberry and hints of vanilla that follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and a silky finish. Very fine indeed. Drink now or hold. But better in two or three years.  (Aug 2012)

Wine Spectator 92 points - Ripe and generous, featuring black currant, black cherry, cedar, sandalwood and underbrush aromas and flavors. This is built with serious tannins, leaving a firm grip on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Best from 2015 through 2028. 1,750 cases made.-BS  (Oct 15 2013)

Vinous 87 points - The flagship 2007 Ghiaie della Furba is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah and 20% Merlot. Black cherries, licorice, tobacco, mocha and chocolate are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass, but ultimately the Ghiaie della Furba comes across as overdone. There is plenty of richness, but less in the way of real complexity.

Wine maker notes
Was created in 1979 when Ugo and Vittorio Contini Bonacossi decided to create a wine in Carmignano with a Bordeaux blend of grape varieties . The first vineyard, made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, was situated on the pebbly, alluvial soil of the Furba stream, after which the wine is named. In 1992 the S. Alessandro vineyard (entirely Cabernet Sauvignon) became productive and the wine’s blend of grape varieties was modified. In 1998 we added Syrah grapes. Today the wine is produced from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%) and Syrah (10%): Ghiaie della Furba is matured for a year in barriques and laid down for a further 12 months in bottles.
