The wine aged for 19 months in French oak (78% new)and combines the deep, brooding notes of Cabernet with the ripe, round fruit overtones of Merlot and the savory green herb and olive notes of the Cabernet Franc. Its firm texture nicely marries tannins with lifted acidity.
Double Eagle is a double entendre – it refers to the rare, three under par golf shot and the limited production Bordeaux blends made by David Grieve and Vance Rose in Napa, California. 2006 was the first vintage of Double Eagle and it set the stage for all vintages to follow; the grapes are sorted by hand in the vineyard, again in the winery and for a third time after destemming. Double Eagle Red is made in limited quantities using the best barrels of each varietal from a single vintage.
