The wine presents fresh and deep notes of exotic fruit and white florals. The nuanced expressions of fruit are framed by brisk acidity and supple minerality. A structured, serious Pinot Grigio that offers hints of salty minerality on the long and complex finish.
Wine Spectator 89 points - This understated white shows fine balance and texture, with well-cut acidity that calls for grilled fish. A smoky undertow mixes with subtle notes of persimmon, lemon preserves, chamomile and slivered almond. Drink now through 2018. 350 cases imported. –AN  (Oct 15 2013)

Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2011 Collio Pinot Grigio offers a lot of class and finesse, bringing the wide world of Pinot Grigio up a solid notch. There’s substance and smoothness here and the wine is enhanced by fragrant tones of summer peach and honeydew melon. A thin mineral shading appears at the back. Drink: 2014-2016. (Dec 2013)

The Schiopetto family has been in the Italian wine business for three generations. Mario Schiopetto founded this legendary estate in 1965, producing wines that would eventually inspire the entire wine industry. Since Mario’s death in 2003, his children Maria Angela, Carlo and Giorgio have demonstrated their commitment to running the family winery. Schiopetto has set a standard of unrelenting quality and are seen today as one of Italy’s foremost white wine producers. The Schiopetto family’s 75 acres of vineyards cover the estate surrounding the former residence of the Bishop of Gorizia in Capriva del Friuli, and the Podere dei Blumeri in the Rosazzo hills that form part of the eastern hills of Friuli. Since the beginning Schiopetto has set a standard of unrelenting quality that covers vineyard practice as well as vinification. The vines are planted in a unique soil type known locally as ponca (limestone-clay marl), which lends a tremendous crushed mineral element to the wines. The heart of the winery is the yeast room, which plays a vital role in the company’s philosophy and production process. This is where the various types of yeast required to trigger fermentation are grown. Cutting edge technology is used to eliminate potential error. Selected by Wine & Spirits Magazine as Top 100 Winery of the Year in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
Technical notes
The hand-picked fruit was harvested from hillside vineyards planted to the marly, clay soils of the Eocene era. The grapes were gently pressed and allowed to settle – during which, no sulfur dioxide was added. The fruit fermented for 10-12 days in stainless steel tanks and was aged sur lie for eight months.
