Pascal Marchand has the heart of a winemaker and the soul of an explorer. A native of Montreal, Pascal traveled through France and in 1983, worked a harvest at Chateau de Chorey-les-Beaune. From there, he began a lifelong love affair with wine, returning the following year and subsequently establishing himself as one of the regionís rising stars - enough so that he was hired as winemaker for Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard. Under Pascalís leadership, the Domaine and its Premier Cru monopole vineyard Clos des Epeneaux quickly gained the renown that it enjoys today. In 1999, after 15 years at Comte Armand, he became a consultant for the Boisset family, helping them launch Domaine de la Vougeraie and advising them on various wine projects in Beaujolais, Minervois, California, Canada and South America. After leaving the Boisset group in 2006, Pascal founded his own negociant business in Burgundy and lent his winemaking and consulting skills to numerous Old World and New World wineries. At around the same time, Pascal also launched Marchand & Burch, a co-venture based in Western Australia with his friend Jeff Burch. In Marchand & Tawse, the Burgundian company formed by Pascal and long-time friend Moray Tawse , one sees their shared passion and commitment to working with and highlighting Burgundy’s distinctive terroirs. Currently, the portfolio includes 36 appellations of the Cote de Nuits and a few - mainly for white wines - from the Cote de Beaune. Production remains relatively small, around 6,000 cases, as Pascal prefers to source fruit from growers he knows and trusts. Each vineyard is a minimum of 35 years old, perfectly maintained and most are farmed organically, which is in keeping with Pascalís well-known predilection for organic and biodynamic farming. Over the years, heís led the charge for sustainable farming methods and within his operations, follows the lunar calendar and vinifies his wines in a traditional manner. The wines speak directly of their origins and of the sensitivity Pascal has cultivated throughout his remarkable career.
