“Making this wine is like creating a sculpture,” explains Winemaker Alison Crary. “Like the armature, our Yountville fruit is the structure and base. Then we add breadth and fleshiness from Rutherford and top it with aromatics from Diamond Mountain.” Fruit from Yountville, one of the cooler regions in Napa, ripens slowly, producing intensely dark flavors, fresh acids and robust tannins. Rutherford’s bench fruit exhibits voluptuous, dark chocolate flavors. On Diamond Mountain, where the soil is thin and the climate more extreme, the tiny grapes give tremendous aromatics of brambly, wild sage and lavender.
