Wine Advocate 97 points - The Collaboration III is made by Mike MacMorran and is 100% Syrah from the Ciel du Cheval Vineyard on Red Mountain. The 2010 Syrah Collaboration Series III is incredible. Aged 20 months in 33% new Burgundy barrels prior to bottling, it gives up totally gorgeous notes of ripe black fruits, smoked earth, crushed rock and bacon fat. Hitting the palate with a full-bodied, elegant and seamless profile, it continues to build in the glass, showing sweet tannin, incredible purity and blockbuster length. It?s the most masculine and mineral-driven in style of the three vintages of the cuvee reviewed here. (Jun 2014)
Collaboration Series III is 100-percent Syrah that exhibits the abilities of winemakers Mark McNeilly and Mike Macmorran to deftly capture Washington State’s distinctive fruit intensity and richness. Our goal is to create a pure expression of Red Mountain Syrah where the fruit is unleashed and the ”powerful elegance” of Ciel du Cheval takes center stage. Four different Syrah clones are blended together to create a concentrated and layered wine that is true to its DNA.
|Force Majeure Vineyards was originally launched as ”Grand Reve Vintners” by entrepreneur Paul McBride and vineyard manager Ryan Johnson in 2004. Grand Reve quickly achieved critical praise and a loyal following for both its wines and vineyard efforts. Now with a new name, Force Majeure seeks to build on its initial success with continued innovation in winegrowing and winemaking.
The term ”Force Majeure” is used to describe the relentless, powerful elements of Nature that form the terroir of our vineyards. It is also the unstoppable force that occurs when the highest level of viticulture combines with an all-star ensemble of Washington State winemaking talent. Our goal is to present a portfolio of wines that compare with the finest in the world.
