Wine Spectator 90 points - Jammy and ripe, this retains a sense of balance and focus, with black cherry and caramel aromas and soft, zesty flavors of blackberry and spice. For those who like their Zinfandels big. Drink now through 2019.—T.F. (Apr 16 2014)
Brown Estate Vineyards is entirely a family affair. Located in the Chiles Valley appellation of Napa, California, the 450 acre estate was founded in 1985, but released its first vintage a year after siblings Coral, Deneen and David Brown established a winery on their family’s property in 1995. The family planted 50 acres to vine in 1985, selling fruit to Green & Red Vineyard, T-Vine Cellars and Mike Grgich of Grgich Hills Estate with a side benefit of David and Deneen apprenticing with the winemakers to whom they sold their fruit. Brown Estate is housed in an impeccably restored, old stone and redwood barn that was built in 1859. The cave is tunneled into a hillside of solid rock. In addition to Zinfandel, the Brown family produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Petite Sirah.
