Vinous 92 points - Light yellow-gold. A complex, highly perfumed bouquet presents fresh orchard and citrus fruits, white flowers and buttered toast, with a mineral element adding urgency. Fleshy and focused on the palate, offering intense fig and pear flavors and a suggestion of smokiness. Puts on weight in the glass and finishes with resonating minerality and excellent spicy length. Wine Advocate 91 points - Pale golden in color, the 2006 Millesime Brut offers a rich yet clear and elegant bouquet of dried fruits, candied oranges, lemons, brioche and nougat. Full-bodied and flavored on the palate this is a big, rich, round and, with respect to the vintage, almost sweet millesime but one which never leaves its elegant and well balanced road. The finish is long, intense and juicy and the citric freshness and purity give it structure even in the long aftertaste. An impressively well made Champagne indeed. (Nov 2014)
Taittinger Brut Millesime is produced from selected Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes grown in vineyards in several of the
finest microclimates of the Champagne region. It is produced only in vintage years when the harvest yields fruit of
excellence equal to Taittinger’s rigorous standards of quality. The Chardonnay grapes are harvested from the Grands Crus
of the Cote des Blancs and the Pinot Noir comes from the Grands Crus of Montagne de Reims and the edge of Vallee de la
Marne. Following harvest, the grapes are pressed immediately in press houses located among the vineyards, yielding a first
pressing which is the only juice used for this wine. At the winery, fermentation takes place under temperature-controlled
conditions. Blending occurs after the primary fermentation, and thereafter the final cuvee undergoes the secondary
fermentation in the bottle in Taittinger’s cool cellars. Aged for five years on the lees, the wine acquires complexity and the
fine, pinpoint bubbles characteristic of its sparkle.
|The harvest began in the rain of mid-September, but the sun soon returned to save a bumper harvest and guarantee good maturity.
The alcohol-acidity combination is original and rates among those of the best harvests.
