Wine Spectator 89 points - The new oak is overpowering in this dense wine, lending coconut, vanilla, sweet wood smoke and resin notes to the submerged cherry fruit. International in style. Merlot. Best from 2015 through 2022. 100 cases imported.-BS

Vinous 94 points - The 2009 Lamaione is rich voluptuous, racy and impeccably balanced from start to finish. Super-ripe red cherries, raspberries, flowers, mocha and spices all come to life in this voluptuous large scaled wine. The 2009 isn’t as super-sized or oaky as some previous versions. At the same time, there is a measure of freshness that is unusual for the year and that helps release some of the energy of the fruit. With time in the glass the floral notes become more pronounced, adding bright upper register that is highly appealing. The Frescobaldi family and their team have done a terrific job with the 2009 Lamaione. This is an impressive showing.
Lamaione is an exceptionally superb Supertuscan produced by the CastelGiocondo tenuta from merlot grown in the 12-hectare Lamaione vineyard, whose vines were planted in 1976 at an elevation of 300 metres.
