Wine Advocate 93 points - Several years ago, viticulturalist Pedro Parra discovered a glacier that must have melted on the coast, giving a soil profile of soft granite and clay. Here Montes planted Cabernet Sauvignon and this forms 90% of the blend of the 2007 Montes Taita, augmented by 5% Syrah and 5% Carmenere, raised in new oak for 18 to 20 months and then aged in bottle. The nose is understated at first, unveiling red berry fruits laced with gypsum, forest floor and thyme. The new oak is nicely folded into the fruit profile. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. It is well balanced with crisp acidity, while the finish nods towards the Old World with cedar and a touch of black pepper. With 1,000 six-packs due to be released next year, the Taita will be well worth seeking. Drink 2014-2025.  (Dec 2012)

Wine Spectator 92 points - An aroma of olive and green herbs is followed by dense, chewy flavors of dried plum, cherry and smoke. Savory midpalate, with a powerful finish of slate and white pepper. Complex. Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2018.K.M. (Mar 12 2014)

Wine maker notes
Montes Taita is a concentrated and complex wine, the production of which is extremely limited. It is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with the addition by Aurelio of other varieties according to the qualities of the years vintage. Intense ruby-red in color, it is endowed with generous blueberry, blackberry, mocca and truffle aromas. In the mouth, the wine brings out delicious notes of cedar and bitter chocolate: most elegant yet powerful at the same time, with lovely soft, rounded tannins. Harmonious in structure, with an attractive, long and complex finish, Taita has the potential for long aging, and can be laid down and cellared for many years.
