Vin dOrrance is a small production winery located in the Stellenbosh/Paarl region of South Africa. Owner and winemaker Christophe Durand and his wife Sabrina founded their estate in 2000. Christophe was raised in Normandy, France to a family of Calvados producers and he moved to Cape Town in 1995 as a supplier of premium French wine barrels to the local market.
Christophe sources fruit from 30 acres of vines planted in Elgin, Franshhoek and Paarl to sandy clay, red loam, limestone and granite. He controls farming and viticulture and leases space at Steenberg Vineyards, located on the outskirts of Cape Town, to vinify his wines. The hand-sorted fruit is picked from low-yielding vineyards and the wines are crafted in very small cuvees so as to receive minimal handling. He produces only three wines, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Syrah.
For the white wines, whole bunches are pressed, allowed to settle overnight and then racked to barrel for fermentation. For the red wines, the grapes were partially destemmed, fermented in open-top fermentors, punched down twice daily for 14 days and racked to barrel. The wines are aged in new and neutral French oak, 12 months for the whites and 18 months for the reds.
