A bright and pretty bouquet of lemon verbena, whitegrapefruit, green apple and quince precede notes of Meyer lemon, kumquat, and Asian pear. Lifted acidity adds length to the elegant finish.
Founded in 2005 by Douglas and Ana Lucia Benitez-Stewart, Breggo is located in Mendocino County, California. Cliff Lede, the owner of his eponymous winery purchased Breggo in 2009 and in 2011, acquired Savoy Vineyard, one of Anderson Valley’s benchmark properties. Breggo was renamed FEL Wines in March 2014. FEL crafts small-lot, single vineyard Pinot Noirs and Alsatian style whites using fruit from Anderson Valley’s best vineyards, including Ferrington and Donnelly Creek. Savoy, the 44 acre FEL estate vineyard, is subdivided into 34 parcels and was planted with a diverse blend of Dijon and Heritage clones. Winemaker Ryan Hodgins has been with FEL from the very beginning. A graduate of UC Davis with a Master’s degree in Viticulture and Enology, Ryan worked at Hanzell Vineyards as the assistant winemaker and viticulturist before joining FEL.
|Fruit from the Ferrington and Savoy Vineyards was whole cluster pressed to tank and settled for 24 hours before fermenting in French oak barrels with limited malolactic. The wine aged sur lie in 60 gallon neutral French oak barrels for nine months.
