2021 LA MANARINE CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE PIED DE BAUD
"A balanced, juicy and polished Chateauneuf-du-Pape with aromas of red berries, roasted meat and peppercorns. It’s medium- to full-bodied with chalky tannins. Generous berry character and a velvety texture. Shows energy and focus, with a very long, flavorful and linear finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." While I have only tasted a couple of vintages from this Plan de Dieu-based producer, both have impressed. The 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape Pied de Baud is nicely red fruited, with charming aromas of cherries and raspberries. It's 100% Grenache that never sees oak, yet it's medium to full-bodied, supple and silky in the mouth, fine and elegant, with hints of dark chocolate on the finish.

Not yet bottled, the 100% Grenache 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Pied De Baud comes from a mix of sandy and pebbly soils and was raised in concrete egg. It has an earthy, savory style in its mulled cherry fruit as well as notes of peppery garrigue and savory herbs. These carry to a medium-bodied, enjoyable, firmer 2021 that will keep for 4-6 years.
