Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
|Region||California, Napa Valley|
"Rich and fleshy in feel, but with a nice juicy edge for balance, this lets creamed plum and blackberry fruit spill forth, laced liberally with mocha, singed alder, sweet tobacco and melted black licorice. For the hedonist crowd. Drink now through 2035." James Molesworth Wine Spectator 94 points Drink 2023-35
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is bright and nicely focused, with fine energy and tons of class. In 2019, Kathryn Hall is effusive and soaring in its aromatics, distinctly red-toned in its fruit profile and less heavy than the 2018 in this tasting. Does this signal a new era for Hall?
There are 6,500 cases of the flagship 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall, based largely on fruit from the Sacrashe Vineyard, at the eastern edge of the Rutherford AVA. A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Merlot, aged in 75% new barrels (mainly Taransaud), it's cedary on the nose, with plenty of cassis and black cherries in support. Full-bodied and plush, this well-endowed effort finishes long and softly dusty, with just a touch of alcoholic warmth.
